Media Studies (Film)

Editing- Once all the video clips and Audio where compiled I dragged them into Premiere where I Edited them into sequence using the story board as reference as the opening was filmed out of order. Once the video clips where placed in a rough sequence they I then began to cut out excess of the clips as most of most of the clips where the same action from different angle so to avoid having an awkward pause in the motion i cut the clips to where the motion was a frame or 2 in so it when it cuts to the clips it already in the motion continuing it. A black screen was added to the beginning and end. The one at the beginning was to because i wanted the film to start with the a soundbridge and give the illusion that the light turning on is what commence the film, The black screen at the end was to have the title be on it's own in most horror films the title is a slightly different font from the rest of the titles. The Shoot-      Overall the Film shoot when smoothly and as planned. This was evident as the shoot was complete in 2 hours instead of the intended 4 hours scheduled. All scene except one were accomplished as a scene that required blood splatter wa scrapped due to it not working out but it it wasn't a very crucial shot that would effect the film. However, recording the audio proved to be very difficult for many reason. First, the microphone levels where not registering correctly and the audio turn out either too high or too low. But, after playing around with the setting manged to reset the levels back to normal. Lastly,  the sound proofing of the room proved to be very bad as  any sound recenatated through the room echoing constantly in the mic as can be seen in the mic levels. Also, the family members of Ruben didn't get the memo that we were recording as they were extra loud when it came to recording the audio. But, at the end the recording turn out good e...

Scheduling-        The opening will be filmed all on one day. The shoot will take place on December 9th from 1:00 to 5:00. This date was established due to the fact that both my actor and myself have very busy schedule and this such so happen to be the only day that we were both available to shoot. The entire opening will be filmed in that one day. The plan going into the filming is to start off by filming all the shoots that require Scout in the scrubs (Ruben) as these are shoots are going to be towards the beginning of the opening and therefore continuity is not a real concern at this point. Then, all the shoots of Ruben as adam will be shoot as they consist mostly of close ups and more reaction based shoots and again are not affected by continuity. After that, Ruben will stay in the Adam costume and i will put on the Scrubs as parts of both characters are present in multiple shots and blood splatters at this point will after continuity. Characters-      The film opening has in total 4 characters, 2 have a physical presence and the other 2 have are only heard via voiceover. the number of character being so minimal was done intentionally due to the fact that I knew I would only be able to work with one actor. so, what will come apparent is that the character were made to fit the certain characteristic of the actor I will be working with. Location Scouting -      From the conception of the idea of the film I already knew the place that I wanted and was going to be able to film the opening at. In my opening, the main feature that stand out in the background is a dark brown butcher table. I didn't know where to find a place that had an actual butcher table would match  the one that i had envisioned in my opening and also didn't have the time or expenses to build a table to match the descriptions. However, my friend has this spare room in his house that had this dark brown desk that worked perfectly in the film. Not only the desk matching the color of the one I needed but the fact that the room the desk was in was a unused room, meaning I would be able to set up and take as long as I needed to film pretty much sold the location. But, at the same time the room was not perfect but, the problems it presented were easy work arounds. Though I had the whole room to work with, there was other furniture...

Storyboard-      For this project I was only required to draw and plan out 6 of the shots in the film opening, However, I felt that by only completing 6 of the shots of the opening would be very beneficial. I decided that I would draw and plan out all the shots in the film to be able to visualize how the entire so I would have a coherent plan that will speed thing up when films as I wouldn't be wasting any time coming up with the shot and what I want to get out of it on the day of. Also, not to mention that due to this project needing to essentially be completed in a little over 2 weeks I had no time to waste and anything that would speed the process When creating the story board I referenced the script throughout the whole process to make sure I had every little detail planned out taking into account the limitations in room and characters. Shot List-      I made the shot list after i created the full storyboard of the film. By referencing the story board i made a shot list with 6 main columns that would help me heavily when it come time to film. The first column is framing. This is where I pointed out the type of camera angle I wanted to frame the particular shot. The majority of the shots where filmed in some variation of a closeup (CU) or mid shot (MS). This was intentionally done to limit how much the audience sees to avoid them them from piecing together all opening before it was revealed at the end of the opening. The second column I gave a description of each shot and what I want to show the audience. This was done to have a quick reference of what is going to happen in the a particular shot to minimize having to reference the storyboard constantly delaying the process. Brainstorming an Idea-      Before I could start writing the script for the film, I felt it was necessary to think of a coherent backstory and characters to incorporate into the plot.This was to have a sort of backbone to work off of. I've been tossing around this idea of "where dose our food truly come from?" Since I wanted to work in the horror genre I decided that it would be best to take this concept to the extreme. By this I'm referring to having the meat products in this universe i'm making come from human body parts. With, a solid idea i then worked on coming up with a backstory to how where and how the human meat started to get sold and packaged. I decided to set the film in the 1990's in the small town of Little Rock Arkansas, as many of the films I researched were based out of lesser known cities.
